Olivia de Havilland and her “twittering” neighbours

It was 20 degrees à Paris “aujourd’hui”…

We were caught by surprise by the arrival of the very powerful rays of the sun, after a long and depressing winter.

“Mon Dieu, what are we to wear?  We’re still in our fur (collars) and suede boots – black and slate grey are the colours of the day…

Frantically, we rummage through our wardrobe – What?  What?  What, to wear?

Summery clothes are needed today, urgently.

The phone is ringing – persistently…

“Hello…. OK, we’ll be with you soon – we answer our friends, who are waiting for us at the Bistro.  Nous arrivons tout de suite….”

Finally… Eureka, we discovered last summer’s long, cotton, tan dress, with its tiny little jacket in the same colour – exchanging our winter brown and black leather accessories to grey and silver, and popping on a tan fedora hat.  Done….  Boff!

Walking hurriedly to our destination, we pass by the lush, green bushes – that are the home of a bunch of the most adorable birds, who happen to reside in them, and seem to serenade their next door neighbour, the legendary actress, Olivia de Havilland.

A most gracious lady, whom we are delighted to see every now and then, reminding us of the inimitable golden age of Hollywood, where she was one of the greats.

My daughter greets them with: “Hi guys”, and their “twique” and “twitter” increase to a crescendo, as we pass them by – as if they too are telling us how delighted they are to bask in the warmth of the – “soleil chaleureux”….

“Enfin”, we meet our friends… feeling fresh, cool, and collected – in our hurriedly put-together look.

Going back home, after the delightful bistro lunch, we make a mental note to exchange our winter clothes – for the new, lighter, and more colourful wardrobe of spring.  So exciting.

We walked with a skip and a hop and felt – a definite lightness of being……

Goodbye winter…

Roll on summer.
