The Marché of Saint-Tropez....

If it’sSaturday

It must be… “Marché” day in…

Saint-Tropez

Refreshingly… charming…

Irresistibly… beckoning…

Marché… de la Place des Lices“…

A delightful… place…

A most… colourful one…

This open-air market… is one of the most beautiful in Provence

At the legendary La Tarte Tropézienne... It all began around 1800… or even goes back to the 9th or 10th century where the Places des Lices was used as a… medieval jostling ground…

Today… the village regulars play Pétanque in this spacious airy ground with the aide… of the shade… of several huge trees guarding and supporting “la place“…

We make our way… through the hustle and bustle of people… milling around shopping or just looking and admiring the myriad regional produce… “et d’autres beaux objects“…

Appetising  layouts… of the best of Provençal cheeses… succulent olives… garlic marinated in lemon and oil… fresh vegetables of the region in vibrant colours… poultry… sausages… the freshest of fresh fruits… exotic Paëlla displayed in huge trays… mouthwatering pizzas… aromatic spices… and the unmissable Herbes de Provence… fragrant flowers of lilies in white and roses of pink yellow and fuchsia… Nougat a speciality of the region… also attractive Tropézien dresses and pants in linen of all shades and colours… romantic scarves… an abundance of the typical straw Tropézien baskets… elegant Panama hats and even “mocassins” in the latest style… Pricey but…

A most… entertaining experience…

A most… rewarding one…

Having done our shopping… we hop over to our favourite “boulangerie”… La Tarte Tropézienne… across the road from the Marché…enjoying their tantalisingly delicious and legendary “Tarte Tropézienne”… (made famous by Brigitte Bardot in 1955 while filming her famous film “Et Dieu Créa la Femme” by Roger Vadim)…

Filling our straw baskets with their superb bouquet of special breads… “baguette provencale et multi-graines“… “pain rustique“… and their sour-dough “pain paillasse“… with a box of “Baby Tropézienne“… we head back home with the unbridled anticipation of the delicacies we bought… to be savoured and enjoyed…

Wicked… !!
