We were at the “vernissage“… private view… of the Salon du Livre 2014… at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre… where we proudly mingled with representatives of their “métier“…

Les hommesde lettres“…

The “Paris Book Fair“… held every year in spring was created in 1981.  Its “raison d’être” is to make the great writing talents from all over the world… accessible to the public at large…

With fifty nationalities exhibiting their books… each was celebrating their own writers… their icons…

The Argentinian delegation… the guest of honour at this year’s fair… consisted of 30 authors… and was headed by the President of Argentina… who came especially for the occasion…

We were “vraiment” mesmerised… by an outstanding key figure in Argentinian literature… one Julio Cortázar… the author of “Marelle“…  A tribute was being held celebrating the centenary of his birth. 

His expressive face… his intensity… were…

Haunting…

Riveting…

Also to be admired… were the legendary French publishers of Proust‘s… “A la recherche du temps perdu“… Gallimard… as well as the world-renowned Hachette… along with the smaller more recent dynamic publishers… namely Odile Jacob… also Albin MichelFayard… were very much in evidence… representing more than 3500 international authors…

Not to mention the sea of books… “un deluge.. de livres“…

Breathtaking…

Fascinating…

How much… humanity needs to communicate…

To express their thoughts… ideas… logic… sentiment… emotions… in the form of…

Thousands of pen on paper… pages creating novels… relating stories… tales of times past… modern ideas… feelings… thoughts… imagination of man…
