The Marais – Our Future Home…?

We live in the “seizième arrondissement” –

Our apartment is off Avenue Foch and very “proche” to the “Bois de Boulogne”.

It’s Posh…

It’s Tosh…

It’s very luxurious and stylish.

It’s also convenient – being close to the prestigious “Lycée Janson de Sailly”, the school our teenagers attend.

We’ve been living in this “quartier” for several years…

However, we would like to make a move to a less “bourgeois” area – like the “Marais”…

It’s bohemian.

It’s creative.

It’s stylish and free spirited.

Today, we got on the “Porte Dauphine” métro, changed at “Villiers”, got off at “Temple”, landing straight into the lap of the “Marais”.

After having our usual “deux express” at the trendy “Café Charlot”, we began the search for our ideal new apartment in the Marais.

While meandering through little “ruelles” and “quartiers”, we passed by a host of Art galleries – ultra modern – reminding us of the “Greenwich Village”, SoHo, and TriBeCa area’s in New York, or the Portobello Road/Notting Hill area in London.

Although the Marais (which means “marsh” in English) was historically the aristocratic district of Paris, with many French nobles building their Paris mansions there, it has now become home to up and coming young artists, designers, boutique owners, as well as young families, who reside very happily in this inspiring part of Paris.

Having had a delightful light lunch at “La Perle” bar and bistro, we continued to the authentic and adorable “La Caféothèque de Paris” – “cafés de terroirs sélectionnés” – on “rue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville”, where we indulged in exquisite gourmet coffee’s with delectable blueberry muffins.

La Caféothèque was started in 2005 by Gloria Montenegro de Chirouze, the former Guatemalan ambassador to France.

We would like an apartment with huge wooden beams, which is “typiquement” Marais, with a little terrace – it would be…

Charming…

Delightful…

We’re hoping that in the not-too-distant future, we will make the move to a simpler, less “bourgeois” Parisian lifestyle.

The Marais is Artistic…

Stylish…

Creative…

Since we ourselves are all of that…

we feel the Marais is where we belong…

Watch this space…
