“Les Graniers”… A Bay of Infinite Charm
Les Graniers…
A bay of infinite… charm…
An enclave of infinite… beauty…
We discovered this little bit of St. Tropez paradise – today…
What can one say… other than…
Sing its praises…
Applaud its graces…
How could a small “plage”/restaurant, nestled in the belly of a rocky “granite” enclave… be so breathtakingly enchanting.
I do not say this – lightly.
I do not compliment – easily.
But… this is different.
I’m in absolute awe…
This is a gem…
I fell in love.
Walking up from the “centre” through “rue de la Ponche”, onto the delightful alleyways… bypassing “l’Eglise Notre Dame de L’Assomption”, with its famous pink and yellow bell tower, we are inundated by dazzling shops of jewellery… straw “Tropezienne” baskets… colourful kaftans… “herbes de provence”… charming restaurants…
A colourful array of flowers climbing up walls… and dangling from balconies… trees of pine…
“Palmier” trees… of such lushness that give the pastel painted pink, mauve, and orange “maisons de village” – with their adorable blue or pale green shutters…
A feel of the exotic…
The wild…
Delightful restaurants dotted along the long and winding alleys serving dishes of “Japon”, “Maroc”, Italy, and Provence…
Reaching the top of this darling hill, we turn left to a road that leads us all the way to this – our new-found… bay of paradise…
We come upon the rocky granite beach with white parasols all grouped together – like white pigeons in Venice’s “Piazza San Marco”.
Under the parasols, white tables of all sizes and shapes – the square, the oblong, the round – are huddled together – awaiting their “clientèle”.
We simply had to have the oblong table for five, right by the sparkling waters of the gently lapping waves, nudging at our bare feet…
After a simple lunch of delicious “moules marinières”, as well as a memorable “loup grillé au feu de bois”, we culminated our “feast” with the best “gateau au chocolat fondant”… we’ve had in recent history.
Groaning delightedly…
We adjourn to the beach…
While reclining on our striped red and white “matelas”, sipping on our excellent, piping hot “café express”.
We spend the rest of the day lazily reading our “Var Matin” and other “quotidiens”, while watching medium-sized “bateaux”… (not the huge, gluttonous yachts anchored at the “Quai”, thank God!) bobbing away… out in the wider sea.
The Mediterranean-blue of the sea… the white sails of the boats, outlined against the gentle hills of this enchanting… “village de pêcheur”… the nostalgic sound of the waves lapping away at the granite rocks… blew our breath away.
This was a day of enchanting beauty…
Indelibly etched on our hearts.
Needless to say…
It was blissful…
It was divine…
Unforgettable…
“Nous reviendrons”…
