Riccardo Muti… Über Conductor…
Riccardo Muti…
Über… conducter…
Appeared… with…
Charlie Rose… on Bloomberg…
A huge treat… for me…
Ever since… I watched him conduct at…
La… Scala…
I was… besotted…
Something…
About… this man…
This… conductor…
That is… so… not ordinary…
He is… riveting…
Yes… he is good looking…
A… dashing figure…
“Un… vero uomo“…
But… no…
It goes deeper… than handsome…
Much… much… more…
Than… the mere physical…
It is… a quality…
An… intensity…
That reaches out… for excellence and…
Achieving it… in loads…
Muti… was born in Naples…
Raised in Molffeta in Italy’s southern Adriatic coast… his father was a doctor and not surprisingly… an amateur singer. His mother… a Neapolitan professional singer. A family… seeped and marinated in music that produced the brilliant talented Riccardo… who is considered one of the world’s greatest conductors… especially of the operas of Giuseppe Verdi.
Since Mozart captures… my unconditional fascination…
I appreciate the fact… that Muti has been a frequent conductor of concerts and operas at the Salzburg Festival… where he excelled in his Mozart opera performances…
He has been a regular guest of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras… in which he conducted the Opera “Aïda“… “La forza del destino“… “Norma“… “Rigoletto“… “Così fan tutte“… “Don Giovanni“… “Le nozze di Figaro“… among others…
He became principal conductor… of the legendary “Filarmonica della Scala“… Milan… in 1987…
Although a regular guest conductor… Muti refused becoming the music director of the New York Philharmonic… however he became the Philadelphia Orchestra‘s music director from 1980 to 1992…
In 2008… Muti was named the next music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO)… effective from the 2010–2011 season…
Not only is Riccardo a great talent… he is also an outspoken campaigner for art and music… In March 2011… he delivered a speech where he condemned the severe budget cuts delivered by Berlusconi’s government which would affect the funding of the arts… insisting on the need to keep culture alive and well in his country… stating…
“Killing culture in a country like Italy is a crime against society… Culture is the spiritual glue that holds a people together“…
“Il est magnifique“…
A holder of numerous awards… and the founder of a youth orchestra called the “Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra“….
Riccardo Muti…
Elegant… alluring…
A giant…
A colussus…
But… then…
I… confess…
I… am…
Biased…
