Our “P’tit Déj”…at Café Sénéquier… | Côte D’Azur Travel Series

The yachts in the port of Saint-Tropez...Saint-Tropez

Is… scorching hot…

Alerte à la canicule pour les prochains jours“…

“Le Var-matin”… headlined…

Armed with an ice-cold Badoit… we ventured into the heat-wave outside… with trepidation…

Walking hurriedly… through the lovely passageways dotted with shops… patisseries… and our regular newsagent… (where we bumped into the Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld while buying our magazines and newspapers)… along the short distance to our destination… the legendary…

Café Sénéquier

Taking refuge… under the shaded cool of the huge red awning covering the terrace of this café… which is the most famous landmark in this adorable “village de pêcheur“…

Marie and Martin Sénéquier… founded their patisserie in 1887 initially in the Place aux Herbes… later their daughter Lisette opened St. Tropez’s first large terrace on the Quai Jean Jaurès… this year celebrating its 125th anniversary…

In the 1930s… drawn by its colours and contrasts… painters and artists came in droves to the small Mediterranean village along with their friends of musicians and actors… who frequented this amazing “terrace” overlooking its dazzling harbour… who also loved to indulge in the exquisite specialities of the House… their delicious patisseries… and world-famous delicacy the nougat “fait maison“… their “café express”… “café liégeois”… and Viennese coffee…

Which made Sénéquier… a legend…

Today it is visited by the rich… the famous… the powerful… we often see Jacques Chirac enjoying his drink in the front row with his best-friend the French industrialist François Pinault…

Having ordered our “p’tit déj” and read “les journaux“…

We became aware of the presence of a former prominent minister in the government of Nicolas Sarkozy… his glamorous wife and his entourage of handsome dynamic silver-haired men and attractive women sitting on the table in front of ours. The men were engaged in animated talk… probably about Sarkozy’s attempt at a political comeback… while the ladies were discussing their latest designer purchases and what they will be wearing for that evening’s soirée.  “Et voila“…

Le Café Sénéquier by Catherine Chausson...

Venturing again… under the scorching sun with the glorious sky of blue… we pass by the yachts… gracefully… patiently awaiting their owners to sail them out into the wider open seas…

Like huge white swans… those magnificent yachts are the fulcrum of the port of Saint-Tropez.  After admiring their awesome power… their glamour… we move on to the business meetings we were scheduled to attend…

After which we head to the simpler… but far richer beauty of nature…

Our private little bay… where we dip into the cool shimmery waters of…

La Méditerranée“…

Another day… à…

Saint-Tropez
