The “Savage Beast” Exhibition at the Met Benefit Gala

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art held it’s Benefit Gala in aid of its Costume Institute (the Met’s Costume Art department), the most sought-after yet exclusive event in the fashion world, equivalent to the Fashion Oscars, co-chaired by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Previous Costume Institute shows organized around famous designers such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace, as well as style doyennes, whom I’ve greatly admired over the years like Diana Vreeland, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Nan Kempner, have drawn significant crowds to the Met.

The gala event marked the launch of the Met’s much-anticipated “Savage Beauty” exhibition, which paid tribute to the British designer Alexander McQueen’s career and genius.

The guest of honour Sarah Burton, the designer for Alexander McQueen’s spectacular Royal Wedding creation for Kate Middleton – now the Duchess of Cambridge – was glowing with her amazing success.

From Renee Zellweger glittering in a gold dress by Carolina Herrera to Gwyneth Paltrow in a silvery liquid column by Stella McCartney, the Ladies looked spectacular – dressed to kill – so to speak, for a worthy cause.

Salma Hayek looked lovely in McQueen, while Jennifer Lopez stunned with a Grecian Red Gucci.  Madonna (who is directing a film on Wallis Simpson that will première at the Cannes film festival this year) was alluring in Stella McCartney.

The legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld attended the Gala, as well as the beautiful Blake Lively, who stole the show in a 2009 Chanel draped dress and nude bodysuit embellished with strategically placed silver sequins.

After the recent tough weeks of war story coverage, it is delightful to look upon so much frivolity, beauty, and glamour.

Women and Beauty…

Beauty and Women…

Two sides…

of the same coin.

The women were dazzling in their fashion creations…

No one does it better…

All for a divine cause…

which is …

the glorification of…

Art.
